CIA cooking demos

One of our favorite food related weekend activities is attending cooking demos at CIA Greystone (Culinary Institute of America) in St. Helena, California. The demos last about an hour and feature single dishes made entirely from scratch, which are composed of fresh, seasonal, local and sometimes unusual ingredients i.e. galangal root. The instructors are very knowledgeable and encourage attendees to ask lots of questions and take notes on provided recipe printouts. At the end of each demo you get the opportunity to taste the finished recipes (this is our favorite part.) The demos cost $15 per person (this price also gets you a 10% discount on anything purchased at the campus store.) The demos start at 10:30 am or 1:30 pm on Saturdays and Sundays. We generally attend the 10:30 class on Saturday, so send us an email (50milefoodie@gmail.com) if you would like to meet up with us. Here is a calendar of upcoming demonstrations. See you there!

50 mile foodies*

In the coming months we will taste and explore what Northern California (within a 50 mile radius of Napa) has to offer, in an effort to become more aware of the culinary richness and diversity that is in our own back yard and share these experiences with you.

*we are not professional food critics. Any reviews of restaurants, purveyers, wineries, etc. should be taken with a grain of sea salt.
